We took a train that brought us to Shenmu station. This train had a historical past - it was used to ferry lumber and thereafter, it had been converted to a tourists' transport vessel to this place. Being red in colour, its quite a sight among the dense vegetation.

As this was a vegetation area, the only way to get around was via footpaths of ups and downs. There's quite a handful we can explore on our own so there's no need to go with a guide - all we need was a map.
The trees here are really old and huge; some of them are several hundred years old and are still looking good strong and tough.
Further into the forest, there were much more to explore such as Shouzhengong with an endless beautiful lake.
This forest is definitely filled with awesome trees that were either bent or carries some stories behind. Great if you are an appreciator for nature.
To get back to the "town central", we need to take a hike back on a winding and considerably hilly road.
By 5pm, the sun had already began to set and we had to get back for dinner before wrapping up for the day. Since we had taken quite a long walk, here's a sight before hitting dinner:

Dinnertime! Another restaurant with a woody theme to settle down for dinner. Rice is freeflow here but we don't need all those, so we just had a bigger serving of the set dinner before heading to the nearby shops to shop for the evening. As Alishan is generally an attraction for its forest, there's pretty nothing much in the evening except simple shopping and hitting hotpot restaurants.
Back to hotel for the night. We've got another day to catch tomorrow.
